TitleDLAM SOP Update: Rodent Cage Population Limits
Posted On1/29/2018
Announcement
The Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM) is adopting a new version of its SOP on Rodent Cage Population Limits, which will go into effect on February 1, 2018. This new version replaces the old SOP, entitled “Rodent Overcrowding.” The new SOP was reviewed and approved by the ARC on November 27, 2017.

A notice regarding the effective date of the new version of the SOP and a link to it was sent out in the DLAM electronic newsletter The DLAM Sentinel to all rodent users on January 9, 2018. However, due to concerns that not all labs may have been reached, this message is being sent again through the ARC listserv.

A copy of the SOP is posted on the DLAM website at https://portal.dlam2.ucla.edu, in the left column under “Frequently Requested Forms.” Please review this document at your earliest opportunity, as research lab staff are responsible for adhering to the SOP. Rodent cages must be monitored within DLAM vivaria on an on-going basis to prevent the occurrence of overcrowded cages. Adherence to the SOP will maintain cages in compliance with standards outlined in the 8th edition of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

Any questions on the SOP should be directed to DLAM’s Executive Director, Dr. Jeffrey Goodwin, at JGoodwin@mednet.ucla.edu, or the DLAM Director of Operations, Matthew Dang, at MDang@mednet.ucla.edu.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation in partnering with DLAM in the care of your animals.
